During the Three Kingdoms period, amidst the turmoil of war, the young Hua Tuo (portrayed by He Shengming) tended to the sick in his hometown of Bozhou, leading a carefree life. Hua Tuo’s miraculous skills saved the magistrate’s daughter Mingxin (played by Li Yixiao) from the brink of death, earning him a reputation as a divine healer and weaving an unbreakable bond with Mingxin. In his quest to create anesthetic for treating Mingxin’s eyes, Hua Tuo embarked on a journey in search of medicinal herbs.
In the capital city, Hua Tuo crossed paths with the hero Guan Yu (portrayed by Yu Yankai), the cunning warlord Cao Cao (played by Wang Jianxin), and his senior brother Wu Side, witnessing the treacherous nature of the officialdom and the vicissitudes of the world. What pained Hua Tuo the most was seeing his beloved Mingxin fall victim to Wu Side’s tyranny. In the mountains of Dongwu, guided by a hermit, a despondent Hua Tuo awakened to a new understanding, vowing to become a great healer who tended to the people, their hearts, and the nation.
From the Battle of Chibi to bone scraping treatments and perilous adventures in mysterious lands, undeterred by the harsh elements, he never wavered in his mission to save lives with a pure heart. With the successful creation of the anesthetic, Hua Tuo and Mingxin’s love story reached a happy conclusion. However, just as happiness beckoned, Cao Cao, driven by illness, suspicion, and resentment, seized Hua Tuo. The healer who dedicated his life to helping others and possessed the gift of healing passed away in captivity.
